Epever load output: why it switches off, and how to set light and timer modes
The load terminals of an Epever controller can power lights, a fridge or a control box, and protect your battery. Here is how they behave and how to set them.
Why the load output switches off
To protect the battery, the controller cuts the load output when the battery voltage falls to the low voltage disconnect setting. It switches it back on only when the voltage rises to the low voltage reconnect setting.
- Reconnect set too low: right after a cut, the battery voltage bounces back up as soon as the load is off. The load switches back on without any real recharge, and is cut again a minute later.
- Reconnect set too high: the load stays off much longer than needed, and your van is left without power when you may need it.
For a 12 V LiFePO4 battery we use 11.30 V to disconnect and 12.40 V to reconnect. See our LiFePO4 settings guide.
The three load modes
- Manual: the output is on or off, as you decide from the app or the controller.
- Light (dusk to dawn): the controller uses the solar panels as a light sensor and switches the output on at dusk and off at dawn. Ideal for outdoor lights.
- Timer: one or two on and off times per day.
Good practice in a van
- Anything powered by the load output stops when the output switches off. Do not put something there that must never stop, unless the battery protection matters more.
- Big loads such as an inverter go directly on the battery, not on the load output: the load terminals have a current limit (see your model's rating).
- After changing a mode, check that the controller really applied it.
With OmniViz Solar
Switch the load output from the Monitor screen or the energy flow, with a confirmation and a check that the controller applied it. In Expert mode, the Load screen sets the manual, light and timer modes. See load control
Frequently asked questions
Why does my Epever load output keep switching off?
The battery voltage reaches the low voltage disconnect setting. If it switches on and off repeatedly, the reconnect voltage is probably too low: after a cut the voltage bounces back up without a real recharge.
How do I make the Epever load output work from dusk to dawn?
Choose the light control mode: the controller uses the solar panels as a light sensor, switching on at dusk and off at dawn.
Can I connect an inverter to the Epever load output?
Large inverters should be wired directly to the battery: the load terminals have a current limit that depends on your model.
