Epever Bluetooth not connecting? 10 fixes for Android and iPhone

Your Epever controller's Bluetooth adapter is not found, connects then drops, or the app says to turn Bluetooth on although it is? Here is what really causes it, and how to fix it.

1. Only one phone can be connected at a time

The Epever Bluetooth adapter accepts a single connection. While a phone (or a tablet left in the van) is connected, the adapter stops advertising: other phones and apps cannot even see it. Close the other app, or switch Bluetooth off on the other device, then scan again.

2. Close the other Epever app

If you use two apps (for example Solar Guardian and OmniViz Solar), only one can hold the connection. Fully close the one you are not using, so it releases the adapter.

3. Do not pair it in the phone's Bluetooth settings

The adapter uses Bluetooth Low Energy and connects from the app, not from the phone's Bluetooth menu. If you paired it there, remove it ("Forget this device") and connect from the app only.

4. Give the app its permissions

5. Get closer

Epever gives a range of about 10 metres. A metal cabinet, a steel van body or the battery bank between you and the adapter shortens it a lot. Test standing next to the controller.

6. The Android "error 133"

Android often fails the first connection with a generic error (GATT 133), especially right after an app restarts while the adapter still holds the previous session. Switch Bluetooth off and on, wait a few seconds and try again. OmniViz Solar retries automatically up to three times.

7. Reset the adapter

Unplug the adapter from the controller's RJ45 port, wait ten seconds and plug it back. It restarts and starts advertising again. This also clears a connection that a phone did not close properly.

8. Check that the adapter is powered

The adapter is powered by the controller through the RJ45 cable, so the controller must be on its battery. Plug it into the controller's COM port (RJ45).

9. Older adapters and the newer Epever app

Some owners of the older eBox-BLE-01 adapter report that the current Solar Guardian app no longer finds it, while the older "Epever Pair" app still works. If your adapter is old, try another app, or tell us its name: OmniViz Solar recognises Epever adapters whose Bluetooth name starts with HN_, EPEVER, SolarG or BLE-RS485.

10. Account and verification code problems

If the app blocks you at the account or verification code step, check your spam folder and that the email address is typed exactly. Or use an app that needs no account at all: OmniViz Solar connects directly over Bluetooth, with no sign-up, no code and no internet.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my phone see the Epever adapter but the app cannot connect?

Usually another phone or app still holds the single connection, or the phone paired the adapter in its own Bluetooth settings. Close other apps, forget the adapter in the phone's Bluetooth menu, and connect from the app.

Does the Epever Bluetooth adapter need a password or PIN?

No. Epever's Bluetooth adapters have no password: you connect from the app without pairing.

What is the range of the Epever Bluetooth adapter?

About 10 metres in the open, much less through metal or a battery bank.

Is there an Epever app that works without an account?

Yes. OmniViz Solar connects directly over Bluetooth, with no account, no cloud and no internet, on Android and iPhone.
